Why Affordable Car Insurance May Not Cover A Major Auto Accident

Cheap auto insurance may seem like the most important thing when considering which policy to choose. As we all know, cheaper is not always better. Making sure to know what your limits and exclusions are if an accident occur is important. Finding out that your coverage was not enough will make a huge different. Comparison shopping is a good way to get your insurance at a low cost. Just make sure you are being smart about the amount of coverage you are investing in.

When you went to get your inexpensive auto insurance, you went with the most inexpensive without considering the limits. If you are in a state where collision insurance is required, you probably just took the coverage that was the minimal to comply with the insurance laws. Most of us do not even stop to consider what that means for us if a major accident occurs. It can only mean a minimum most especially when you consider the high cost that bodily injury can incur. If you are not fully covered, you may be leaving yourself open to some substantial hardships if something unexpected happen.

AutoInsuranceWithin each policy are limits that are outlined. That means that when an accident occurs, there is usually a maximum amount that the insurance company will cover per accident as well as a maximum that they will cover per person injured. If your limits are set really low, you may be leaving yourself open to personal litigation. Each state has their own mandated minimum limits which may be taken out and every policy has built in limits for a set price. If you do not feel like the maximum is enough then you should increase the minimum. There is usually an incremental increase for each additional amount. Depending on how much the cost will be, it may be worth it to add the additional amount for peace of mind.

Although comprehensive coverage is not mandated to drive a motor vehicle, it should be something to consider. Comprehensive coverage is different from collision insurance and it is that coverage that is subject to a deductible. Comprehensive coverage will cover your vehicle if you incur damage that is not considered due to collision. Those damages would be things such as weather, vandalism, fire or theft. With the way that the weather has been, giving comprehensive coverage consideration may be a good idea. All those who have gone through devastating natural disasters like flood or fires have been out of luck if they did not pay the additional to add it to their policy.

Most of the things that will happen to your car are those things which will happen outside of an accident. It is all those little things that add up. Having your car repaired is never an inexpensive endeavor. A car can perhaps be the most expensive thing you can own or drive. When you run into something, it is always a substantial amount of money to fix it. If you are going to protect yourself, make sure you do the right thing.

Besides comprehensive insurance, there are other types of car insurance policies that you may want to consider adding to your policy. Things that you probably would not consider until you are in an accident and suffer a loss that is not cover-able but by then, it is too late. Most assumed that when you have insurance, the car would be totally covered but what you might not know is that the inside of the car is not. It seems ridiculous that the things within the car would not be replaceable as well. But in most policies the contents of the car are outside the liability of the coverage. At a time when most of us travel with very expensive equipment like iPhones, Smart Pads, Laptop computers, there may need to be some better consideration taken for covering our things.

Many insurance companies have what is called a personal property addition to your policy. It is a coverage that will cover the contents of a car if they are destroyed in the case of an accident or comprehensive damage. It is usually a minimal addition but in the end, it can mean some substantial savings for you if something should happen. Another worthwhile addition to consider if you recently purchased a new car or are leasing one is something called a loan/lease policy. This is a policy which will cover the difference between the amount you owe on a car and what its replacement value is. That may not seem a lot but when you consider just driving a new car off of the lot will cost you close to a thousand dollars or more then it can really be a useful tool.

Insurance is a hard pill to swallow. The thought of paying so much a month in such a tough economy seems unnecessary. However, most things are unnecessary until you need them. When you need them and they are not there, you can lose everything. Making sure that you will be covered is well worth the cost even if it does not seem like it at the moment.
